I am obligated to reblog this again, because it is now Superwholock, and therefore perfection.

people need to remember that every tumblr post in 2012 was like this

onetwothreemany:

FEMA is doing an emergency alert test on all TVs, radios, and cell phones on October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20pm ET.

If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.

Yes, I’m doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.

Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I’m bad at tags.

“The purpose of the Oct. 4 test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the back-up testing date is Oct. 11.”

Gee, I thought these people were the ones who were like “If you don’t like it, you can just move to a blue state.”

And now they’re mad the guy is doing just that?

You can’t oppress and discriminate against someone then be mad when they take their highly useful skill elsewhere.

His point is basically that he’s going to go where he’s wanted. Guys like Brett realize, as he’s leaving that he’s actually beneficial to the society he’s leaving. If he wasn’t, Bret would be celebrating. This brain drain they’re fretting about is entirely of their own bigoted doing. If they’d thought about retaining great contributors to society instead of culture wars, there’d be no issue.

And the guy still is doing his job, by the way. Saving sick kids.

He just wants to do it in a state that doesn’t hate him and his family.

also like. He’s not leaving just to make a point, though a powerful point is being made. He’s leaving because his home is no longer safe for him. People tend to like their homes, and tend to want to stay there, and much of the time, when people leave, it’s because staying has become untenable. You don’t think a pediatrician absolutely cares that children in Louisiana won’t have access to cardiac care without him? He’s a *pediatrician*, I guarantee you this guy cares about children’s welfare but his home is no longer safe for him.

All grand political statements and solidarity (all of which is incredibly important ofc) aside, his home cast him out and made him unsafe and now people have the audacity to call him selfish and insinuate that he left because he just didn’t feel like living and working there anymore. This isn’t a ‘go where you’re wanted’ situation, it’s a 'flee for your life’ situation and framing it as some kind of political statement rather than a self-defense measure obscures just how dangerous anti-queer laws have become

and also one last point but: even if no queer person was a 'great contributor to society’ these laws are still evil, still poison. Laws that cast out human beings and oppress them based on innate traits are inherently fascist and cannot be softened by implying that the problem is the loss of skilled labor as opposed to blatant human rights abuses against everyone

Okay, so actually the really funny thing about that “biggest baddest mother fucker in the woods” post is that the most terrified I’ve been of any mystical or spiritual forces was in the woods.

But that just comes with being respectful of nature and knowing your place.

Yeah there’s a difference between giving off an aura of confidence (which is how I interpret the Discworld Granny Weatherwax quote I think they’re referencing) and actually believing that there aren’t any spirits out there who can Fuck You Up… which is just hubris! 🤣 Even Granny Weatherwax was careful around the Gentry.

Yes!
